VLADIVOSTOK -- Air-traffic controllers in the far eastern city of Vladivostok today joined a protest by their colleagues in other Russian cities, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
The protest was initiated by air-traffic controllers in Rostov-na-Donu on April 9.
The protesters are demanding a salary increase and the immediate resignation of Valery Gorbenko, the director of Russia's Corporation for the Organization of Air Transportation.
Thirty air-traffic controllers in Vladivostok -- almost half of the total contingent -- have joined the protest thus far. They told RFE/RL they hope their colleagues will join them soon.
One protester told RFE/RL's correspondent that air-traffic controllers plan to hold a number of pickets and other protests in Vladivostok on April 30. Many of the air-traffic controllers in other parts of the country are on what they call a partial hunger strike -- eating only during their shifts in order to stay alert.
