UFA, Bashkortostan -- Another suspected member of an extremist group was detained in Bashkortostan today, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Police said the unnamed suspect, who lives in the village of Budanyar, resisted arrest and was wounded by security service officers. He is the 10th member of an alleged extremist group created by Bashir Pliyev, also known as Emir Bashkirsky, to be arrested in recent days.
Pliyev, who is originally from the North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, was detained on March 30 in Chelyabinsk Oblast near Bashkortostan.
On March 27-28, local police allegedly clashed with armed members of Pliyev's group in the town of Oktyabrsky, in Bashkortostan. Russian authorities say the group was involved in kidnappings and robberies in Bashkortostan in order to raise money for the Islamic insurgency in the North Caucasus.
They also claim that Pliyev's group planned several terrorist acts in the Volga Federal District. The Russian news agency Regnum on March 30 quoted Ingushetian police as denying that Pliyev is wanted for any crimes in his home republic.
