BISHKEK -- A fire at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) in Bishkek severely damaged one of its buildings today, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Firefighters battled the fire but not before it destroyed most of the building where the school's library and Information Technology are located.
The Fire Department said the blaze may have been started by a cigarette or by wiring problems in the building's electrical system.
AUCA, which was founded by billionaire philanthropist George Soros, is considered one of the top universities in Central Asia.
