Azerbaijani journalist Elmar Huseynov, who was shot to death outside his home on March 2, 2005, was commemorated in Baku today on the fourth anniversary of his death, RFE/RL's Azerbaijani Service reports.
Huseynov, the editor of the journal "Monitor," was well known for his investigative articles that rooted out government corruption.
His killers have never been found.
Leyla Yunus, a human rights activist and the head of the Institute for Peace and Democracy in Baku, said at the commemoration ceremony that the government has failed to keep the president's promise to find and punish the killers and organizers of the assassination.
Isa Gambar, the chairman of the opposition Musavat party, said the crime will not be solved as long as its organizers remain in power.
Meanwhile, Arif Babayev, spokesperson of the Ministry of National Security, said that the probe into Huseynov's murder is ongoing.
