TBILISI -- Georgia's private Airzena airline has started charter flights from Tbilisi to Moscow, RFE/RL's Georgian Service reports.
Airzena representatives told journalists in Tbilisi that the Russian authorities had given permission for a total of 10 return flights to Moscow between August 20 and September 15.
A Boeing-737 plane flew 120 passengers from Tbilisi to Moscow today. Later in the day, the aircraft was expected to bring the same number of passengers back from Moscow to Tbilisi.
Direct flights connecting the two capitals were suspended in August 2008 following the Russian-Georgian military conflict over Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia.
Earlier this week, private Russian airline S7 said it had received permission to resume regular flights between Russia and Georgia. It did not say when those flights would resume.
