Moldovan Pensioners Protest On Human Rights Day

CHISINAU -- Dozens of pensioners have rallied outside the UN office in Chisinau to protest what they call "the genocide" being waged against them by the Moldovan state.

Protesters told RFE/RL's Moldovan Service that the average Moldovan pension, which is about $100 a month, is not enough to make ends meet.

In the last several months, the pensioners have protested once a week in front of the Moldovan government building.

They said today's rally was held at the UN building in the Moldovan capital in honor of today's 60th anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
