Tajik Border Guards Open Fire On Kyrgyz Bus

BISHKEK -- Tajik border guards opened fire on a Kyrgyz bus on April 21 near the village of Surkh on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

Kok-Tash Mayor Raziya Osorova told RFE/RL that the incident happened around midday and that no one was injured.

The Tajik side claims the border guards had to shoot after the driver of the Kyrgyz bus refused to cooperate with them.

A Kyrgyz-Tajik working group is investigating the incident.

The Kyrgyz-Tajik border has been a sensitive issue for many years as many parts of the border are disputed and there are small exclaves of territory belonging to Tajikistan within Kyrgyzstan.
