Tajikistan Bans Pork, Poultry Imports

Tajik authorities have banned poultry and pork imports from four U.S. states, Mexico, Russia, and El Salvador to "prevent the spread of swine flu in the country," RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.

Nasib Ikromov, from the Khujand city health center in the northern Sughd Province, told RFE/RL that no cases of either swine or avian flu have been registered in the country.

Another health official in the province, Jamshed Usmonov, said that pig farms and border checkpoints in Tajikistan are sanitary and being monitored.
