Veronika Cherkasova was found dead at her apartment last night after she didn't arrive for work or answer her telephone.
A relative found her with multiple stab wounds around her throat.
Cherkasova had been working in Belarus's independent media for some 15 years. One of her colleagues, Marina Zagorskaya, today told AFP that Cherkasova had not recently been writing political articles.
Authorities in Minsk say they have launched an investigation into the slaying.
