Controversial Russian ultranationalist politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky has sued Mikhail Gorbachev over comments made in the former Soviet leader's book.
Moscow's Timiryazev district court ruled on September 30 that the hearing into the case of Zhirinovsky versus Gorbachev will be held on October 15.
Zhirinovsky is demanding 1 million rubles ($15,200) as compensation for damage to his personal honor and dignity that he says was caused by Gorbachev's book After the Kremlin, which was issued in 2014.
The leader of the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Zhirinovsky is mentioned several times in the book.
Gorbachev writes that Zhirinovsky might have been involved in some "provocations" and describes some of his statements as "extremist."
In addition to the monetary penalty, Zhirinovsky is demanding that Gorbachev officially denounce the allegations in his book.
Zhirinovsky is well-known for making outlandish charges and ultranationalist statements.
