Azerbaijani Soldier Killed In Shootout With Armenian Troops

Azerbaijan says one of its soldiers has been killed in a shootout near the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The Defense Ministry said that Private Farid Agayev was severely wounded in an exchange fire with Armenian troops on February 5 and later succumbed to his wounds.

Several soldiers from Azerbaijan and Armenia have been killed in multiple shootings in recent weeks.

Baku and Yerevan accuse each other for the cease-fire violations.

Relations have been tense between the two neighbors for nearly 25 years as a result of their conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Armenian-backed separatists seized the mainly ethnic Armenian-populated region from Azerbaijan during a war in the early 1990s that killed 30,000 people.
