MINSK -- A memorial to commemorate the more than 6,000 Jews from Czechoslovakia deported by Nazi Germany to Minsk and killed there in 1945 has been unveiled in the Belarusian capital.
The ceremonial unveiling of the memorial was held on November 23, which marked the 70th anniversary of the first group of Jews being deported from Czechoslovakia to Belarus.
Czech Ambassador to Belarus Milan Ekert attended the ceremony.
The stone slab with plaques in three languages -- Czech, German, and Belarusian -- became the ninth such memorial at the site -- near the Minsk Jewish cemetery -- commemorating victims of the Holocaust.
Of the more than 6,000 Czech Jews deported to Minsk, only nine survived.
The memorial was established by the Minsk Educational Center of Johannes Rau with the support of the Minsk city administration.
