MINSK-- Activists in Belarus have started collecting signatures on a petition protesting a presidential decision to introduce a $100 fee for those who travel abroad.
Last week, President Alyaksandr Lukashenka said publicly that the new regulation should be introduced in the near future.
Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Pyotar Prakapovich said to the "Respublika" newspaper on September 12 that the new regulations would be introduced in 30 to 45 days.
The coordinator of the Christian Spirit initiative, Alyaksey Shein, said he and his associates have launched the online campaign. More than 12,000 Belarusian citizens have so far signed the petition.
The activists say the new regulation would violate the constitution, which guarantees free movement for Belarusian citizens.
