A series of bomb attacks killed at least 23 people in mainly Shi’ite districts of Baghdad on July 12.
No one immediately claimed responsibility. But the Islamic State militant group often is behind such bombings, and authorities fear it is intensifying attacks in Baghdad during Ramadan.
The deadliest attack was in the northern Shaab neighborhood where a man detonated an explosives-laden vest in a crowded market, killing nine and wounding 25.
Earlier, eight people were killed by a suicide car bomber who attacked a checkpoint at Adan Square, near an entrance to the neighborhood of Kadhimiya, just before the meal that breaks the dawn-to-dusk Ramadan fast.
In Baghdad’s Al-Iskan district, a car bomb killed at least four and wounded 11 as people gathered after sunset to break the fast.
A roadside bomb in Baghdad’s Al-Amal neighborhood also killed two and wounded seven.
