EU: European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights holds a hearing on the human rights situation in Russia and the North Caucasus.
Iran: Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad begins his visit to the United States to attend the 66th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Kazakhstan/France: Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev visits Paris, meets with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Russia: The international conference Social Media Week begins in Moscow (to September 23).
Ukraine: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych makes a working visit to the United States to attend the 66th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York (to September 22).
TUESDAY, September 20:
Moldova: Moldova's Constitutional Court in Chisinau is to pronounce its decision on the procedure for electing the president of the country.
Russia: The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg rules in case of former oil company Yukos against the Russian government.
World: The 2011 Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative opens in New York (to September 22).
WEDNESDAY, September 21:
Armenia: Armenia marks the 20th anniversary of its independence.
Kazakhstan: The seventh “Environment for Europe” ministerial conference begins in Astana (to September 23).
UN: The General Debate of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly starts in New York. Leaders of Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, and the United States are scheduled to address the meeting.
World: International Day of Peace.
World: World Alzheimer's Day.
THURSDAY, September 22:
Moldova: Moscow hosts a meeting of representatives of Russia, the United States, Ukraine, the EU, and the OSCE, plus officials from Moldova and the Transdnestr region.
UN: Leaders of Croatia, Georgia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey are scheduled to address the General Debate of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
UN: New York hosts a high-level meeting on the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration.
FRIDAY, September 23:
Russia: The ruling United Russia party, headed by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, to hold its annual congress (to September 24).
UN: Leaders of Armenia, Iraq, Serbia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, as well as Israel and Palestine, are scheduled to address the General Debate of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
SATURDAY, September 24:
Ukraine/Russia: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych visits Moscow for talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
UN: Leaders of Macedonia, Moldova, and Montenegro are scheduled to address the General Debate of the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
