Dozens Killed, Injured In Baghdad Bomb Attacks

Dozens of people have been killed and injured by bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

Officials said a motorcycle bomb blast on February 27 killed at least 31 people at a market in the predominantly Shi'ite Sadr City district of eastern Baghdad.

More than 50 people were reported wounded.

A separate, car bomb blast hit another part of the same district and killed at least five people and injured around 14.

A third explosion struck the Shaab district, also predominantly Shi'ite, in northern Baghdad, killing four and wounding 11.

No one has claimed responsibility for any of the attacks, but Sunni insurgents often attack Shi'ite areas to undermine the Shi'ite-led Iraqi government.

According to the United Nations, nearly 9,000 people were killed in Iraqi violence in 2013.

Based on reporting by AP, Reuters, and dpa
