The spokesman for Russia's Investigative Committee, Vladimir Markin, says a suspect has been detained in the murder of a television anchor in the North Caucasus region of Kabardino-Balkaria.

Markin identified the suspect as 30-year-old Zeytun Boziyev, a resident of the region's capital, Nalchik.

Boziyev is suspected of shooting broadcaster Kazbek Gekkiyev as he was leaving work on the evening of December 5.

The day after Gekkiyev's killing, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded local law enforcement bring the journalist's killer to justice.

Based on reporting by ITAR-TASS and Interfax
