Both Kyrgyz and Chinese officials have called the incident a terrorist attack.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing.

China's Foreign Ministry on August 31 called on Chinese citizens to avoid visiting Kyrgyzstan and instructed those who are in the Central Asian country to be on alert.
