Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called for an end to the U.S. embargo against Cuba.
He was speaking on March 24 in Havana after talks with Cuban President Raul Castro and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
Cuba is the first stop of a tour of Latin America that will also take Lavrov to Colombia, Nicaragua and Guatemala.
His visit to Cuba comes after the recent thaw in relations between Havana and Washington.
Lavrov was quoted as saying that Russia will work with Cuba to help end the U.S. trade sanctions.
He also said that Russian companies are interested in investing in Cuba's development.
Lavrov also said Cuba and Russia are preparing joint projects in several areas, including energy, transportation, and biotechnology.
