A new report by the charity Save the Children says the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the worst place in the world to be a mother while Finland is the best.

The "State of the World’s Mothers" report issued on May 7 ranks 176 countries according to maternal health, child mortality, education, and income levels for women.

The 10 worst-ranked countries were all from sub-Saharan Africa, starting with the DRC, where one in 30 women and girls die giving birth or from other maternal causes.

In Finland, the figure is one in 12,200.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are also among the 10 worst countries in terms of babies who die on the day they are born.

The United States ranked 30th overall and has the industrialized world's highest death rate for newborns.
