Pakistan Sentences Six Militants To Death Over Peshawar School Attack

Pakistan’s army has announced the death penalty for six militants for their involvement in the deadly school attack in Peshawar.

The men were convicted by military courts established following the December 16 attack last year that killed 151 people, mainly school children, in the country's deadliest terror attack.

A seventh man was given a life sentence.

A statement issued on the military's website said “the convicts were given fair trial,” adding they had a right to appeal.

The trial took place behind closed doors and no details were given about the location or date of the proceedings.

The statement also included the name of the convicts and their role in the attack.

A six-year moratorium on the death penalty was lifted in December. Initially it only applied to those convicted of terrorism but now applies to all capital offences.
