Pakistani Taliban Faction Claims Attack On Shi'ite Mosque

A faction of the Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a Shi'ite mosque in the city of Rawalpindi, which killed seven people.

The attack took place late on January 9 after a large number of people had gathered in the mosque for a religious event.

A spokesman for the Jamat-ul-Ahrar faction of Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Ehsanullah Ehsan, said in an e-mail to journalists, "We claim responsibility of the attack on the Shiite mosque and vow to continue such attacks against enemies of Islam."

Ehsan added, "We want to make it clear to these infidel rulers that we will not be impressed by any of their laws or hangings."

Pakistan has strengthened its offensive against the TTP since their attack on a school on December 16 killed 158 people, most of them children.
