Police in southwestern Pakistan are investigating after a popular Pashtun singer and television actress was found dead at her home, RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal reports.
The body of Yasmin Gul, 25, was discovered November 27 and taken to a hospital in Quetta.
Gul was well-known in Pashtun communities on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border for her performances of folk songs.
She is said to have quit her career recently after getting married.
Gul's mother accused the singer's husband and brother-in-law over the death. Police said that her husband denied the allegation and that he suggested overconsumption of alcohol could have contributed to Gul's death.
No arrests have been made.
Making a career in singing or acting is challenging for women in conservative Pashtun society, our correspondent reports.
In 2009, singer Ayman Udas was shot dead at her flat in Peshawar, allegedly by members of her family.
Gul's death came on the same day as another Pashtun singer was reported kidnapped along with three friends in a different part of the country. Musharraf Bangash was abducted in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, on his way to Peshawar.
No one has claimed responsibility for Bangash’s kidnapping.
