Rohani Urges Closer Relations In Talks With German FM

Iranian President Hassan Rohani says Iran and Germany should improve bilateral relations and cooperate to fight terrorism and promote stability in the Middle East.

Rohani made his comments on October 17 during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

"Iran and Germany should make endeavors to upgrade bilateral relations
to solve regional and international problems," Rohani said.

He added, "The countries might have differences on international issues...but the settlement of such problems as terrorism is possible."

Steinmeier was on a one-day visit to Tehran for talks with Rohani and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and for talks on the Syria crisis and on bilateral relations.

Steinmeier urged Iran to meet its obligations under the landmark nuclear deal Tehran signed with six world powers in July that curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

Steinmeier flew later to Saudi Arabia.
