Security forces in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan have killed at least five alleged militants in the western Khasavyurt district.
Daghestani Interior Ministry officials say the suspects were killed in a special operation on December 5.
The operation is continuing.
Law-enforcement officials say the militants are trapped in a trench near the village of Novy Kostek and were involved in attacking and injuring a police officer on December 4.
Several police officers and gunmen have been killed or injured in a number of counterterrorist operations in Daghestan's Khasavyurt district in recent weeks.
