Russia's Putin Meets With Visiting Egyptian President

Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with his Egyptian counterpart, Muhammad Morsi, in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

The meeting focused on bilateral economic cooperation, including Russian tourism to Egyptian holiday resorts, and Russian grain supplies to Egypt.

The ITAR-TASS news agency quoted Putin as saying trade turnover between the two countries has increased and reached $3.5 billion, while the number of Russian tourists visiting Egypt rose significantly in 2012.

Russians are among the leading visitors to Egypt.

It is the Islamist president's first visit to Russia since he took office in June, 2012.

Morsi has been a vocal opponent of the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, while Russia is leading arms supplier and longtime ally of the regime.
