Greenpeace says masked men broke into its premises in the northern Russian city of Murmansk and stole a mock cage that environmental activists had planned to use in a protest outside the court in the city where the 30-member crew of a Greenpeace ship are detained.
Greenpeace released video footage showing masked men entering the grounds outside its Murmansk office to take away the cage, which was to have symbolized the unfairness of the charges against the crew.
The 28 Greenpeace activists, a photographer, and a videographer were detained last month after they staged a protest against oil drilling in the Arctic at a Gazprom oil platform.
All 30 were charged with piracy and could face up to 15 years in prison.
Greenpeace says more than 100 events in 36 countries are planned on October 18 to demand their immediate release.
