Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed the leader of the United Russia faction in the State Duma, Andrei Vorobyov, as the acting governor of the Moscow region.
"I would like to offer you another job, which has to do with the executive branch. You have probably guessed it already; I mean the post of acting governor of Moscow Oblast," Putin told Vorobyov during a meeting in Moscow on November 8.
On November 6 Putin appointed Sergei Shoigu, serving then as governor of the Moscow region, as Russia's new defense minister.
Shoigu was named to replace Anatoly Serdyukov, after a criminal probe was opened into alleged fraud in the selloff of military assets at a company controlled by the Defense Ministry.
The Investigative Committee said the state had suffered damages of 3 billion rubles ($95 million) from the fraudulents actions at Oboronservis.
Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov said Vorobyov's appointment indicated a lack of quality personnel in the government.
