A Russian citizen accused of being part of a spy ring while working as a banker in New York City pleaded not guilty on February 11.
Evgeny Buryakov, 39, allegedly posed as a Manhattan employee of the Russian state bank Vneshekonombank.
Prosecutors say that at the same time, he was working for Russia's foreign intelligence service, SVR.
He was indicted on February 9 of charges that he engaged in a conspiracy and was an unregistered agent of Russia.
He was arrested on January 26, the same day the U.S. Justice Department announced charges against him and two other Russians, Igor Sporyshev and Viktor Podobny.
The other two were protected by diplomatic cover and are no longer in the United States, according to the government.
