A Russian coal mine worker who was recently fired killed a policeman and injured three other people in a shooting spree before he was shot dead by police.
Authorities said the shooter entered the administrative building at the Raspadskaya mine in the Siberian city of Mezhdurechensk on December 8 and shot a shop chief, seriously injuring him.
Police later confronted the attacker at his apartment building and killed him in a shootout that left one officer dead and two injured.
Officials said the 61-year-old gunman had recently been fired from his job in a repair shop at the mine for absenteeism.
The governor of the Kemerovo region, Aman Tuleyev, said he had taken the investigation of the incident under his personal control.
Workplace and school shootings are rare in Russia but appear to have become more common in recent years.
