A former Yugoslav and Serbian general has been arrested in Montenegro on suspicion of having committed war crimes in the 1990s.
Serbian Borislav Djukic, 66, was arrested on a warrant issued by Croatia at the airport in the resort town of Tivat as he was boarding a plane for Belgrade late on July 18.
Djukic's wife, Radmila, said he told her "do not worry, I will endure it."
Radmila, who was with her husband at the airport when he was detained, said they had traveled to Montenegro many times in the past.
Djukic is suspected of committing war crimes in Croatia between 1991 and 1993.
Djukic appeared before a Podgorica court on July 19 and was placed in detention pending possible extradition to Croatia.
Djukic was deputy head of the Serbian Krajina Army during the 1991-95 war in Croatia.
He appeared as a defense witness during the war crimes trials in the Netherlands of former Yugoslav and Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and former Croatian Serb leader Milan Martic.
