The United States says coalition aircraft have been rerouted at least once to avoid a close encounter with Russian warplanes in Syrian airspace.
Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said on October 7 that the rerouting occurred after an October 1 secure video conference between U.S. and Russian military officials, who discussed ways to keep crews safe as they conduct parallel aerial campaigns in Syria.
Davis could not provide more details, including the number of times this has happened.
The United States and its allies have been waging a year-long air campaign against the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria and Iraq.
Davis said the air operations had to be adjusted since the Russians began its aerial campaign in Syria on October 3.
