At least three people were killed by an explosion in an apartment block in Ukraine's southeastern city of Mykolayiv.

The explosion destroyed 18 apartments and damaged seven others on May 12.

A woman trapped under the debris was rescued on May 13. She was hospitalized with hand burns.

Mykolayiv city police say a gas leak might have caused the explosion.

Authorities confirmed the death of three and hospitalization of six people.

Only a few dozen people had thus far been rescued from the apartment block that houses some 213 residents.

The people whose apartment was destroyed have been relocated in hotels.

Rescue operations are continuing.
