One Dead In Suspected Gas Leak Blast In Ukraine

A woman has been found dead under debris in an apartment block that was shattered by an explosion in Ukraine's southeastern city of Mykolayiv.

Officials of Ukraine's State Service for Emergencies said 54 residents of the building were evacuated after two levels of the building were damaged on June 9.

Three people were hospitalized, one in serious condition.

A 78-year-old woman who was slightly injured in the blast refused treatment.

Investigators say they do not exclude that a gas leak may have caused the explosion.

Rescue work is continuing at the site.

A similar explosion in Mykolayiv four weeks ago killed three people and destroyed 18 apartments. Investigators blamed a gas leak for that blast.
