Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is due to depart for North America on September 17.
His first stop is Canada, where Poroshenko will hold talks with Prime Minister Stephen Harper among other senior officials in Ottawa.
On the eve of Poroshenko's state visit, Canada announced fresh sanctions against Russia for what Ottawa called Moscow's continued "aggression" in eastern Ukraine.
The sanctions target four senior Russian generals, a bank, and five arms makers.
On September 18, Poroshenko travels on to Washington for talks at the White House with President Barack Obama before addressing a joint session of Congress on September 19.
His visit comes a day after Ukrainian lawmakers ratified a landmark deal on closer ties with the EU, and approved laws granting temporary self-rule to rebellious, pro-Russian regions in the east, as well as amnesty for many of those involved in fighting there.
