The U.S. State Department has named two Russians allied to the Islamic State (IS) group as "specially designated global terrorists," including a Chechen militant tied to deadly attacks in Moscow.
The State Department said Aslan Avgazarovich Byutukayev, also known as Amir Khamzat, is the IS leader in Chechnya and responsible for suicide bombings in Russia that included the January 2011 attack on Moscow's Domodedovo airport, which killed 35.
Washington also named Ayrat Nasimovich Vakhitov as an "actively engaged terrorist."
It said Vakhitov, who also uses the name Salman Bulgarsky, has fought for IS in Syria and uses the Internet to recruit fighters for the militant group.
