At least 13 Iraqis were reported killed after explosions hit a market in Baghdad's Shi'ite district of Sadr City. The cause of the explosion is unclear.
Some residents accused U.S. forces of firing rockets at the market, but the American military said it had no information about the attack.
Dr. Abdul Jabbar al-Zubeidi, director of Al-Sadr Hospital, told reporters that at least another 30 people were injured:
"Today we received 30 injured persons -- all of them are shell injuries in different parts of the body, including the head, the chest, the abdomen, the extremities. Actually, 15 of them were severely injured."
Elsewhere, the U.S. military said five soldiers were killed and six were wounded when attackers fired two rockets at an American military base near Taji, north of Baghdad.
Two other U.S. soldiers were reported killed after their convoy was ambushed in the southern city of Al-Kut.
In the northern city of Tikrit, at least three Iraqi policemen were killed after a car bomb exploded outside a U.S. military base. (AP, AFP, Reuters)
