Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yurii Fedotov today said that the latest draft is an improvement on previous versions, but that some points still need to be discussed.
In other developments, Iraq's new interim government says it has agreed on a plan to disband the country's many factional militias.
"The vast majority of such forces in Iraq -- about 100,000 armed individuals -- will enter either civilian life or one of the state security services such as the Iraqi armed forces, the Iraqi police service, or the internal security services of the Kurdish regional government," interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said in Baghdad about the plan to disband the country's militias.
Meanwhile, reports say at least one person was killed and several wounded when explosions went off in a compound surrounding a mosque in Iraq's southern town of Al-Kufah. Fighters loyal to radical Shi'a cleric Muqtada al-Sadr have been using the compound.
