Pakistan's PM-designate Survives Assassination Bid

30 July 2004 -- Pakistan's prime minister-designate, Shaukat Aziz, survived an apparent assassination attempt today.

AFP and private Geo television reported that two people were killed in the attack on Aziz's motorcade in the town of Fateh Jang, 50 kilometers southwest of the capital Islamabad.

Reports suggest the attack might have been a suicide car bombing.

Aziz is currently Pakistan's finance minister and has been chosen by Prime Minister Chaudry Shujaat Hussein to succeed him if elected to parliament in August.

Aziz was campaigning when the attack occurred.
