A U.S. military spokesman says a suicide bomber killed four bodyguards of Environment Minister Mishkat Mu'min in southern Baghdad, and at least 10 other people were injured.
In western Baghdad, police say a roadside bomb exploded as Education Minister Sami Muzzafar's convoy passed, killing one person and injuring two others. Police say Muzzafar was not in the convoy at the time.
South of the capital, U.S. forces today fought with Shi'a Muslim militants in the holy Shi'a city of Al-Najaf. Reports say U.S. aircraft, artillery, and tanks were used in the latest assaults targeting fighters loyal to Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
In the southern city of Al-Basrah, Reuters is reporting that scores of Shi'ite militiamen have gathered in the streets with assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, demanding U.S.-led forces pull out of Al-Najaf.
