Colonel Adnan Abdul-Rahman of the Interior Ministry said the two were on their way to work when 12 gunmen in three cars fired Kalashnikov rifles at them in the Jurf al-Naddaf area on the outskirts of the capital.
The soldiers were riding a pickup truck with a civilian, who survived the attack.
Abdul-Rahman said the gunmen then seized the pickup truck.
Members of Iraq's security forces are frequent targets of insurgents who often accuse them of collaborating with foreign troops.
