An RFE/RL correspondent says Akaev will officially submit his resignation tomorrow. Today, Akaev met in Moscow with a parliamentary delegation representing Kyrgyzstan's interim.
Akaev's resignation would be a significant step toward solidifying political order in Kyrgyzstan following last month's political upheaval that caused him to flee the country.
The interim authorities have tentatively scheduled a new presidential election for late June. However, if Akaev were not to
step down, the legitimacy of that election could be called into question.
RFE/RL's correspondent reported that the Kyrgyz parliament is expected to announce the end of Akaev's presidential term tomorrow following the handover of the resignation document.
