In Baghdad, meanwhile, a roadside bomb killed two Iraqi civilians. Haris al-Niimi, a member of a local district council, described the scene of the killing.
"At about 8:30 this morning, as we were sitting outside the house, we heard a loud explosion, so we went to look and we found a car damaged and two martyrs inside it and when we asked we found out that it was a roadside bomb planted behind the concrete slab in the street," al-Niimi said.
Also in Baghdad, the international airport reopened following a two-day shutdown over a contract dispute between the government and a London-based firm that ensures security.
