Bomb Hits Daghestan Railway


25 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- News report say a bomb hit a railway line in Russia's southern republic of Daghestan, derailing a maintenance train and injuring its two drivers.

Russia's Interfax news agency says the blast occurred on the Kurush-Karlan Yurt line.

Traffic along the Moscow-Makhachkala, Astrakhan-Makhachkala, Rostov-Moscow, and Baku-Sverdlovsk lines has been suspended.

In related news, two bombs went off overnight in the outskirts of Daghestan's capital Makhachkala, leaving six police officers wounded.

Daghestan, which borders Chechnya to the east, has witnessed several bomb blasts and militant attacks in the past few months.
