Russia To Supply Mexico With Natural Gas

Presidents Fox and Putin in Moscow today 21 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Mexican counterpart, Vicente Fox, today in Moscow discussed Russia's plans to supply Mexico with liquefied gas.

The gas would come from the Russian Far East.

"I am pleased to note that our liquefied gas will be delivered to the Mexican coast from Sakhalin [Island] and part of it will remain in your country," Putin said at a joint press conference. "We also have other plans [for cooperation] including in the field of machine building."

Putin also said Russia has other plans for cooperation with Mexico, including in the area of machine building.

Fox arrived in Moscow on 20 June from Ukraine, where he began a regional tour aimed at building commercial ties in the former Soviet Union.
