U.S., Iraqi Forces Arrest 30 Suspected Insurgents

22 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Iraqi and U.S.-led troops say they have captured 30 suspected insurgents in two days of operations in Iraq.

A U.S. military statement said Iraqi and U.S. soldiers seized 12 suspected terrorists in three different parts of Baghdad today.

The U.S. military also said that on 21 June, Iraqi and coalition troops captured 16 suspected insurgents and foiled bomb attacks against a police station in the capital.

In Manila on 22 June, Philippines' President Gloria Arroyo announced a Filipino hostage in Iraq has been released after almost eight months in captivity. The man was working for a Saudi company when he was abducted in November 2004 from the company's office in Baghdad.

Arroyo said the man was already in the custody of Filipino diplomats in Iraq but did not give details on how he was freed.
