Investigative judge Hamid Ganjola admitted he ordered the search of some prison cells for possible evidence connected to the 23 August killing of Slavoljub Scekic, who was Montenegro's police chief since 2000.
According to Ganjola, the warden at the prison said masked police entered some cells and illegally beat and harassed prisoners on 25 August.
Police had no comment on what happened at the prison, how many prisoners were beaten, or whether any evidence was found in the search.
