Ex-Minister Joins Georgian Human Rights Group


Georgi Khaindrava (file photo) (ITAR-TASS) August 1, 2006 -- Giorgi Khaindrava, the former state minister for conflict resolution in Georgia, has joined the Equality Institute, a human rights group that has been outspokenly critical of the Georgian government's record on human rights.


Khaindrava was dismissed on July 21 for publicly criticizing a cabinet colleague.


The Equality Institute has led criticism of Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili, whom it holds responsible for alleged police violence.
