Chechen Interior Minister Ruslan Alkhanov today said Dzhabrail Abdurazakov was killed in a shoot-out with security forces. It was not immediately clear when he was killed.
The report referred to Abdurazakov as the "emir" of the village of Avtury, in the Shali district, and said he was a close aide of radical Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev.
It said Abdurazakov was wanted for a series of attacks on security forces, as well as the killing of the head of the Avtury administration and his son in late 2005.
A separate report said a 53-year-old woman linked to Basayev was detained in the town of Argun. The woman who was not named allegedly provided accommodation to militants.
