China, Kyrgyzstan Sign Cooperation Agreements

Trade across the China-Kyrgyz border (file photo) (AFP) June 9, 2006 -- China and Kyrgyzstan today signed 13 cooperation agreements.

The two neighbors, in particular, agreed to work together on building a cement factory in Kyrgyzstan's southern Batken Region.

They also vowed to boost military and security cooperation, and continue working on a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.

China's Xinhua official news agency says a total of 13 agreements were signed on the sidelines of Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev's state visit to Beijing.

Bakiev, who arrived today in China, held talks with President Hu Jintao, State Council Chairman Wen Jiabao, and Wu Bangguo, the chairman of the Standing Commitee of the National People's Congress.

On June 10, he will address the China-Kyrgyzstan trade and economy forum.
